Our Mission

AnemiaFaro is a community-led health navigation and advocacy initiative working to build a visible network of care for people affected by sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, chronic anemia, and other complex health conditions throughout Baja California.

We support residents, migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and families who may face language barriers, limited healthcare coverage, transportation challenges, financial hardship, or fear and uncertainty when seeking medical care.

Our approach is grounded in a simple belief:

Presence before programs.
Trust before systems.
People before process.

We meet people where they are, listen to their needs, and help them identify realistic pathways toward healthcare, resources, stability, and ongoing community support.

Health Navigation

Healthcare systems can be difficult to understand, especially when someone is managing a chronic condition, experiencing pain, living without insurance, or navigating care in a new country.

AnemiaFaro provides compassionate, culturally responsive health navigation to help individuals and families better understand their options and take the next step toward care.

Navigation support may include:

  • Understanding available healthcare pathways, including IMSS, ISSSTE, IMSS-Bienestar, private care, and community clinics

  • Locating hospitals, clinics, specialists, laboratories, and pharmacies

  • Preparing for medical appointments

  • Organizing questions and health information

  • Connecting individuals with community and social-service resources

  • Supporting communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers

  • Providing referrals and follow-up assistance

  • Accompanying individuals when additional support is needed

  • Helping people understand chronic conditions and the importance of continued care

AnemiaFaro does not replace medical professionals or provide emergency medical treatment. We serve as a trusted bridge between the community and the systems available to support them.

Community Food Pantry

We recognizes that health is affected by more than medical care. Food insecurity, unstable housing, transportation barriers, and financial hardship can make it difficult for individuals and families to manage chronic health conditions.

Our community food pantry provides basic food assistance to individuals and families experiencing hardship. Pantry support is designed to complement our health-navigation services and help address immediate needs while longer-term resources are identified.

Pantry support may include:

  • Shelf-stable food

  • Water and hydration supplies

  • Basic hygiene products

  • Family food packages

  • Condition-sensitive food options when available

  • Referrals to additional food and social-service programs

Food pantry assistance is provided by appointment and based on available supplies. Priority may be given to individuals managing chronic illness, families with children, older adults, migrants, refugees, and people experiencing an urgent health or financial crisis.
